Theatre Arts at CHS
CHS Theatre has the primary goal of bringing quality theatre experiences to
our students and the local community. The drama program allows students
the opportunity to explore many aspects of the performing arts within many
different venues. The year consists of three shows performed in our
wonderful black box theatre and our state of the art mainstage theatre.
Given time and money, we also invite a guest artist to teach a workshop on
acting or tech theatre. Aside from singing, dancing, and acting, students
learn hands-on experience through their integral roles in planning and
production of the shows. Students are encouraged to not only perform in
shows but also participate in Student Production Staff, Stage Crew, Costume
and Set Construction, and Technical Crews. The students enjoy performing
for their peers at CHS, but they especially enjoy performing out in the
community and around the state. Each year they get a chance to share their
talents and see what other high schools are doing in the performing arts. The
one act CBC play festival has been a great vehicle for this kind of touring.
We are also working at getting our charter for thespians so students have the
chance to earn membership to the Thespian Society, an international
theatrical honor's society.
To become a member of the drama program, only interest and perhaps a
bold heart are needed. Everyone is welcome to audition for any of our shows
or be involved as a "techie". Overall, the drama program fosters teamwork
and disciple while having a great time.
Give us a try!
